Follow me on Scrapping Life

I've decided that keeping 2 blogs, a website, a facebook page  and an Etsy shop are too much. So as happens in life, I have decided to downsize.
Please visit me on my other blog Scrapping Life - One Page at a Time.
I will include all my Etsy projects on that site as well as any  other layouts, cards or items I am working on - with tidbits of my life thrown in here and there.
Thanks and I  hope to see you there!
Shannon.
Oh yeah - don't forget to follow me and any comments or suggestions are appreciated - thanks again! :)

Toot Toot!!!

My daughter is a very talented young glassblower in Vancouver. She's becoming a well-known up and coming artist in the glass community. Today she was telling me about her work and was humbled to say how good she is compared with others. I told her it was good to toot her own horn once in a while. She should be proud of what she does!
Well, I need to take my own advice. Like mother like daughter I guess.
So ... toot, toot!!
I am so honoured and thrilled to be asked to be a guest designer @ The Paper Passion for the month of June.
I will be featured on their forum and gallery as well as their Facebook Page and their Blog. Each Friday for the month of June, I will have a project using products available at The Paper Passion along with tips or techniques.
I received my box of goodies yesterday and the wheels have been turning ever since!
I am sooo excited and thrilled to be asked and look forward to sharing my work with you.
Be sure to check their Blog every Friday (as well as guest designer Zoe Newburt featured every Tuesday in June) for my projects and tips.

Barbecues, Fairs and Stickpins

Okay maybe they don't go together - or do they? Regardless, that is what my weekend consisted of.
Finally with the nice weather we were able to barbecue and ... wait for it ...
sit outside!!!!!!!!!!!! It felt good to sit under the umbrella even if cars and sirens did go by. Something about eating outdoors just makes the food taste that much better. And the barbecue helps too - steaks, burgers, chicken, ribs, fish, veggies - whatever, taste so much better on the barbie! Of course a nice, cold cooler helps too.
This weekend too was our annual May Days. I haven't been to it in  years but went with our son and his wife and our 9 mo.old grandson. I was impressed and proud that our little ol' town of Ladner put on such a great fair. There was a midway with rides and games for young and old, concession stands, vendors with their homemade goodies and handmade wares, a bandstand  with continuous entertainment, softball tournament, petting zoo (which is the one thing my grandson would have loved and somehow we missed it) and of course a beer tent to keep the men happy. Actually the beer tent was a popular place.
My grandson, although too young to enjoy the rides or goodies, did win 2 small prizes with a little help from daddy - so he was pretty happy. He had a smile on his face the whole time. He seems to be in his element when around people or activities. He`s going to be a going concern - but a good concern - especially when I am the grandma!
I also added some stickpins to my Etsy shop. My daughter has been busy with moving and work so has not had time to set up her lampworking table and equipment. So I bought some beads from a wholesale bead store and made some new stickpins. I designed cards to display them on and grouped them in sets of 3. I photographed them all (oh yeah - hubby bought me a new light box - love it!) and added 2 of the sets to my shop. I made 7 sets but I`ll add a couple at a time as I want to spread my listings out a bit.
Here`s the 2 sets that I added. There are individual photos in my shop. Also, this is what the packaging looks like.

So, how was your weekend?

Oops!!!!!!!!!

Sorry  I have been such a bad blogger. I can't believe how much work having an Etsy shop is. I thought that I just made items then hopefully they sold. But there is shop  branding, pricing, packaging, shipping, promoting, photography. tags, titles, descriptions, teams, circles, searches and treasuries - phew - not to mention the creating! I also have another blog 'Scrapping Life' which I have spent more time designing so this poor little blog has been left out in the cold. I am thinking of having only one blog but for now please forgive the lack of creativity on this blog design.
I have been busy making items for the shop though. And yes, they are much more creative.
With the busy wedding season upon us I have been making albums that can also be used as wedding albums.
The first is an album uusing Basic Grey's Capella line. This paper is an older paper but I always loved it - it's  perfect for photos of your special day. This 5X7 album contains 16 pagea - 8 with photo mats and 6 pocket pages which include pull out mats with tabs to add more photos or journalling. Beautiful Prima flowers, pearls and lace were added to the front cover.

Next is an album made wih a mixture of Prima's Fairy Belle and Printery papers as well as Romantique by Graphic 45. It measures 5 1/2 x 4 1/2 and contains 24 pages - 12 of which are pocket pages with pull out tabs. This book has a romantic, vintage look to it.  The cover contains Prima flowers, twill ribbon, a sheer ribbon bow with a vintage style button and beautiful black pearl swirls. A metal and rhinestone heart locket is attached with a chain. The locket opens for you to put a special photo inside.

The next album is suitable for a wedding, an anniversary or just a special album for two. It  is a beautiful 6x6 scrapbook mini album made with the Bella Bella paperline from My Minds Eye. The front and back covers are made with sturdy chipboard and contain inside pockets to store photos, letters, emphera or treasures. The front cover is embellished with Prima flowers, pretty Prima 'peacock' rhinestones, ribbon and bow, a beaded stickpin and a title 'You and Me'. A handbeaded charm bookmark hangs from a chain.Inside there are 16 pocket pages with pullout mats and tags for all your photos.

I also made a brag book and some altered notebooks that I will share with you shortly.
These items are all available in my Etsy shop.

Etsy Shop Hop

As mentioned in a previous post, I took a 5-week Etsy course to help me get started on this crazy yet exciting adventure. To help promote our shops, our instructor Jennifer Priest of Hydrangea Hippo, has arranged a Shop Hop for all students on Friday April 20th and Sat. April 21st. I think there were 50 or so of us signed up for the course so I am hoping that many will participate either in this hop and/or in future hops. It'd be nice to stay in touch and see how everyone is doing with their shop.
I hope you will join us - it should be fun. I'll list all the deets on Friday!

I'm Soooo Ready...

for nice weather that is! After growing up in Ontario I know how lucky (and spoiled) I am now to live on the west coast. No big snowstorms or even any snow to shovel as far as snow goes, no hail or thunderstorms and no humidity and unbearable heat in the summer. Sure, we get snow but it's nothing to panic about (unless there is none on the mountains) and we get thunderstorms once in a while as well as the odd sweltering hot day but mostly we get spring and fall all year round. And yeah - we get rain during our 'winter' months.
But  all that being said, I am so ready for summer this year.
So then what is with the big tease that Mother Nature is giving us?! Just when I think it's okay to pull out the patio umbrella and take the cover off the barbecue it either rains or is cold and windy - or even worst - all 3!! This has been the strangest weather. 26 degrees celcius in Ontario in March while it's only 8 degrees celcius in BC. It was shorts and t-shirts in Alberta then bam - 2 weeks later a snowstorm on Easter Weekend. Weird!  Mother Nature is certainly a stubborn and unpredictable woman!
But okay now Mama, enough is enough! The calendar says it's spring and I LOVE spring! The cherry blossoms and magnolia trees are co-operating and now it's time that you did too. Stop the tears and quit your huffing and puffing and give us a nice long warm hug.

This is why I love spring (photo compliments of my talented friend Aletta).

And this is why I'm looking forward to summer!

New Mini Albums

I've been busy making new mini albums to get ready for our Easter weekend sale.
They both use papers and embellies from Prima - one of my fave manufacturers.
The 1st one uses the Nature Garden line. I love the soft and vintagey look of this line. I also love the garden theme with all the fairies and pixies. I attached a Prima swirl pearl and rhinestones to the cover along with flowers and ribbon. A tag with a butterfly charm is attached with chain to the binding then a piece of iridescent tulle is tied to it. So soft and pretty!

The 2nd album was made by a combination of papers and embellies from both the Printery line and the Almanac line. This one is mostly black and cream with soft greens, pinks and corals.
Rather than the soft romantic look of the Nature Garden line it has a more nostalgic vintage look to it with old watch faces, script and lots and lots of vintage touches. The cover is again embellished with beautiful Prima flowers, pearl and rhinestone swirls all wrapped in a big striped ribbon and bow. It also has a tag and charm attached with a chain and black tulle.

Both albums measure 6X6 and have envelope pages with photo mats inside.
Now for the good news. They're both available in my Etsy shop and they're both on Sale this weekend!

Have a safe and happy Easter!

Teams, Banners and Books

Our Etsy class instructor has graciously set up a private Etsy Team for all participants of our course as well as future courses.
This is great news! It will not only be awesome to stay in touch and  ask questions as we help each other grow but it is also a great way to expand our customer base and get our shop known. As mentioned before, we will all be getting together to have a cross promotion/hop very soon. I keep going back and playing with my banner and am still not happy with it. I ended up hiring a designer to help me with one as I also want business cards to match with the same logo, etc. I know I could have asked my son who works for a web design company but he is so busy with married life, work and raising my little grandson. The most important thing!
Hopefully by the end of the week I will have a new shop banner and can apply it to my blog also. The name and links will remain the same.

On another note (lol - no pun intended), I made another altered Note Book yesterday.
I used another G45 paper - this time 'Boardwalk'. It has a vintage beach look to it with a big button and black/white striped bow  much the same as old vintage bathing suits. Again. it's available in my shop.

Have a great week!

My Kind of Day!

After a wet, cold winter today we had clear skies and sunshine, then my adorable 7 month old grandson came to visit and tonight I did some scrapbooking. The only way to make it better would be to throw in some shopping. Seeing my grandson always makes me smile. I just saw him 2 weeks ago but they grow so much at that age. Today he was using my wheelchair to grab onto and pull himself up - well almost. It won't be long until he's scooting all over the place. He's so strong and very determined - both good traits but not so much at this age! He's such a treat and to think that the fun is just beginning!
I also finished another altered note book I had started earlier in the week. I wanted it to be a distressed vintage look. I used papers from Bo Bunny and Echo Park tearing and distressing them then having a newsprint paper peek out as if the next page. Prima flowers were  added as well as a clock cut from their packaging, a silver chain, Tim Holtz gears, bling, ribbon, a tag and everything inked to give it a vintage look.

I LOVE making these altered note books. They can be used for anything and are so much fun to make.
This one is available in my Etsy shop. Have a peek while I'm off to pick papers for the next one!
Have a great weekend!

Easy Peasy and oh so Purty

I can't believe how fun and easy these stickpins were to make. And they are totally addictive! Now I have to get my daughter busy making more beads.
Aren't these so cute - actually I love them too much to stick on an album cover - I am wondering if I should sell them in pairs or 3's in my Etsy shop. What do you think? The large glass beads are handmade and the small glass ones are swavorski crystal.

I also made a charm to hang from one of my albums.

These were so much fun to do - except when my fingers stuck together. That jewellery glue is like super glue - it really sticks!

Thanks for looking.

Thank Goodness for Little Girls

Especially when that little girl is your beautiful and talented daughter! Some of you may know that my daughter is a glass-blower. She apprenticed with Robert Held Art Glass and now works at Bocci Design in Vancouver. As a side-line she also does lamp-working - aka glass bead making to a layman like me.
She recently gave me some glass beads to make stickpins or charms to add to my projects. Today she brought me over smaller glass beads, silver chain, pins, fasteners and tons of other things for me to play and experiment with. I am so excited to make my own stickpins and charms to add to my books. As I only make one of each book/project they are all one-of-a-kind. Now they'll be moreso - using handmade glass beads made by my own 'little' girl. Sweet!

Happy St. Paddy's Day!

Here it is March 17th already! (alright so it's after midnight - ignore the date above). Sorry I've been a bad blogger but there is so much to do do in starting a business regardless of on-line or a storefront. This day of technology helps a lot but it also creates more work - facebook, twitter, blogs . I'll update you on everything but first HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY! Boy it's hard to believe that it is actually being held on a Saturday this year and here I am at home writing in my blog while in my comfy pj's and hubby is in bed counting sheep! Where have the years gone? It was actually 33 years ago today that hubby and I had our first date! We went to a dance in London, Ont. with the then little known Irish Rovers and double dated with my dear BFF and her ex. We danced the night away, got engaged 6 weeks later and married the following year. So yeah, we are coming up on our  32nd anniversary. Still happy but not spending St. Paddy's Day dancing and partying like back in the day. Wow - we sound like old geezers!! I should make some green tea at least -lol.!
Anyways, my Etsy shop is coming along. The course is helping a lot but also is the Etsy handbook. Between the two, I think (hope) I'm getting there. I've changed my banner. I don't like it as much but it's  clean and clear and not so s t r e t c h e d  out. I revised my policies, bought some search ads and I started a facebook page  www.facebook.com/SapphireNoteables . I made a couple more albums and listed them and OH YEAH - I sold a mini file folder portfolio! YAAY!  The buyer emailed me to say it was lovely but I just wish they would put it on my shop feedback for others to read. Oh well, hopefully that will come with time but in the meantime it's such a thrill for me to know that others are enjoying my work.
I added a nautical album which is made with pocket pages and tags. It can be for travel photos or just for the special man in your life. Masculine albums are so hard to find!
I used a lattice punch to edge the cardstock pages and really like the look of it. I hung a little charm to the front and a striped ribbon along the binding. I had to contain myself to keep it from being glitzy and pretty.
I used a Stampin Up paper for this album. I'm usually not a big fan of their papers but this one was perfect for the album I wanted to make.

The next album is from one of my most favourite paper lines -

'Little Darlings' by Graphic 45.
This paper is oh so pretty and oh so vintagey - as only G45 can do!

Oh em gee I just LOVE this paper. It is appropriately named  -  totally darling! I needed to replace the baby album that sold so this paper was perfect! I bound each page with satin ribbons tied in a bow - making pretty ribbon clusters on the end. The left hand pages each contain a pocket edged in a lace punch and inked with a tag inserted to leave as is or add a photo or journalling to the back. The right hand side of each page is an envelope style to add a photo into and a flap edged with a lace punch and inked. Lift the flap and add a photo or journalling. Lots of inking and vintage touches and Prima flowers, Stickles, Pearls and a stickpin were added to the cover.

Both of these albums are available now in my Etsy Shop.

Thanks for visiting and have a great week!
